Settling into Pattaya! My favourite food and cafe options in Jomtien

We have moved to Pattaya!

It was a close call to move to Phuket or Pattaya after 1 month of Bangkok stay. Since we liked Bangkok way more than we thought we would, we chose to be close.

First impression of Pattaya was really bad… lol

Beach is brown here. Or, should I call it golden… I was expecting much better. However, I got used to it? It annoys me sometimes, but sometimes I feel that it’s nice enough… It’s convenient enough to get to town centre, and I am happy with my neighbourhood businesses.

Ko Larn, which is 15 min boat ride away gives me a much nicer beach experience and I am happy with that.

Once a month Ko Larn trip + my daily Jomtien sea breeze is a win for me.

I’ve been very happy here. I think it’s the combination of

  • Vitamin D
  • Seabreeze
  • Chill vibes
  • Nice condo with nice amenities
  • Convenience
  • Happy locals

Coming from Vancouver, the amount of Vitamin D I get is off the chart!

Coming from Bangkok, which I thought was too hot to handle, Seabreeze here make it much better and makes it livable for me.

Just sitting on my balcony, looking at the sea and feeling sea breeze… very chill, and oh so relaxing. I never use air conditioner at home. Opening the window is enough for me.

Our condo have 3 pools, 2 gyms, large sea view common areas… all of them fa fa fa fancy. Also allows pets!! which is very very rare in Thailand.

10 Baht to 20 baht, which is 40 to 80 cents Canadian, I can get to city centre.

As a person who hates driving, Baht bus works well for me! it’s an ocean view most of my ride. We also use Bolt occasionally. It’s an app to connect with taxi or uber type drivers. Costs more than Bangkok cabs, but still good.

The locals in Pattaya is so nice! and fun. I only met nice people. The waiters and waitresses, chefs and convenience store workers  always say hi to us when walking by. Much smaller community here, but it works!

What’s nice in Jomtien?

Here are some of my favourite businesses in Jomtien.

Title Arts Space

Title Arts Space is one of our most frequently visited hideaway cafes. We enjoy coming here on rainy days, or too hot to walk days. There are generous overhang and where you sit is protected from the elements. I love this giant rubber tree. I usually get green tea. My husband likes Americano honey with their waffles.

Rescue Cafe

We go to Rescue Cafe twice a week.  Especially Saturdays, they have homemade Thai dessert… my favourite!

My husband likes their large cakes as well on other days. It is the place if you want to meet other expats in Jomtien.

You can also sit on the beach with purchase of their drinks or food. which is genius!! So many hours sitting on the lounger.

Hookwang Cafe

Our first meal on Jomtien was eaten here, and been a fan since.

Table facing the sea, sea breeze, we like the owner and the chef a lot.

We go there to eat, we go there to have a drink… it’s quite nice.

For food options, I like this place in a back alley… I don’t even think the restaurant has a name. It used to be a different restaurant, the chefs are renting the space. The food quality and generous portions, being completely outside in a garden with overhang. Everything on the menu is 50-60 baht. The most cost effective and most satisfying meals. The chefs have the most friendly kitties and we get to hold and pet them every time!

I feel like this sunset photo sums up my life in Jomtien, Pattaya.

it’s light hearted, it’s easy, and it’s really relaxing. Plenty of things to keep me very happy everyday.

Convenient enough not to own car…  150 Baht to Bangkok… 15 min to Ko Larn. I think it’s pretty good!
